Jigging Method

When jigging, I have always pinched the minnow in half and took the hook from the jig and hooked the head of the minnow on. I was told yesterday, that it works better if you hook the half minnow through the body with the head down.

Has anyone tryed it this way, or does anyone have an opinion???

I haven't tried that but the other day I had a revelation. From 3-4pm the other day, I was only able to catch crappie with the jig(scandia size 10) hooked through the lips. Like clockwork at 4pm, they stopped hitting. I switched to hooking the minnow behind the dorsal next to the tail and they started hitting again. Moral of the story, try different methods and let the fish tell you what they want.

The reason i hook em through the head while jigging is, it stays on the hook better.

alot of times I will only use the head when jigging, if using a dead stick will use the whole minnow. Either way I always hook them so the barb is pointing forward.

I used to go side ways through the cranium, but have switched to the more subtle presentation of the lips. I will also peg the tail section of the minnow to the hook at times.
