Marcum LX-i

For a new budget conscious ice fisherman with a hand auger the Marcum LX-i sounds like a great gadget to have.

I want to be able to get a read on depth accurately before I punch the hole. Right now I have my map, and a line with a weight... and I would like to prevent those holes that get punched 3 ft shallower than I thought when I began.

Have you had one? How has it worked for you? Obviously I want to eventually have total package, but now is the time for $50-75 not $250-500.

Welcome, They work great, but you will find that you need to get a good contact with the ice to get a reading. Bring along a water bottle and pour a little on the ice to read though.

Works perfectly for what you want to do. Getting down to some good ice and then a bit of water gives a reliable reading very quickly. Then I like to scratch the depth number in the snow near the reading and move around a bit, establishing a pattern before drilling hole #1.
