Aqua-vu cable too long

I have a AV Scout with the 100 ft cable on it. I think they thought they were doing me a favor one day when I took it in for service and put the long one on. I did take off the ear things they had for winding it up and installed a wire spool to wind the cable on but its still a pain. Two questions- Has anyone come up with a garage invention to cure this?(maybe my cable spool is the closest answer there is?)- Can the cable be cut and shortened?

I have repaired my camera cable after it was cut. It is possible to shorten it but if you don't get a completely water tight seal you will keep blowing fuses. If you are sure you want to shorten the cable I would cut it about 2-3 feet from the monitor but make sure you leave enough cable so the part you cut doesn't contact the water. What I did was I soldered the wires together then put some stuff on call liquid tape and then used heat shrink tubing over the top of that and then a larger piece of tubing over all of the wires. If you decide to solder make sure you use resin core solder and not acid core because the acid core will corrode the wires. In my opinion though I would just deal with the long cable and not shorten it. That's just my opinion though.
