Neighbor has around a 95 or so F150 and I am thinking of buying it. A few questions- he said theres a "box" out so the 4X4 doesn't engage, he said its about a $100 part, what could that be? Next question, it has a little rust (not too bad) and over 200,000 miles, plus it needs tires, how much do you think it is worth? It runs good

Transfer case shift module? I think those started when they changed the body style in 97 or so. Good luck finding it. If you remove the heater vent in the center of the dash that blows towards the driver you will be able to see it wedged between the dash and the heating duct.

It is more common for the shift motors to corrode/bind/fail on the transfer case.

Sometimes you can whack to dash and get the module to work enough to get in into 4WD to help confirm the problem.

As far as worth, that's not my department.

95..200 rounds, needs tires, 4wd inop. needs parts. Worth maybe a couple hundred bucks in my opinion.

Kinda what I was thinking, plus I was going to have it looked at to see exactly what/how much to fix the 4WD. If that doesn't work, I don't want it.

Guy is in his 80s and money isn't really an object.

again, if it was that "cheap" and "easy" it would already be done. just keep that in mind

He has a car and that truck. The truck sits in the driveway 360 days a year, and has been that way for years. I am assuming he just doesn't care to get it fixed, he can afford it, believe me.

Lots of people assume we "old timers" are wealthy only to find we don't always know where our next lobster dinner is coming from. Maybe a generous offer to shovel his snow a few times and get the old truck off of his property could get the price down to nothing...
