Sharpening Auger Blades

My old Jiffy auger needs some attention to the blades. What is the best way to sharpen the blades with the serrated type edge?

Bogwalker, Jiffy makes a handheld sharpening appartus for the serrated edge chipper blades. I dont know how well they work. I am thinkijng of getting one. If anyone has any experience with these Jiffy blade sharpeners, please weigh in on the topic.

bogwalker, I have had sucess by taking the blade off the auger and clamping it in a vise. I then put a sandpaper disc on my grinder and touched up the angled side of the blade. I tried to keep the factory angle as best I could. It worked out well. Didn't grab ice like a new blade, but still cut very well. Jiffy has a section on their HSOforum on sharpening blades, good info.

As far as the Jiffy handheld blade sharpener, I got one as a Christmas present. Haven't taken it out of the package yet - I think I'm going to return it. Seems like more of a novelty tool than anything. If anyone has tried it let us know what you think.

A belt sander works great. Just DO NOT bevel the bottom edge.
