Try a buckshot rattle spoon for starters, tip it with a minnow head for example and jig it quick, to make it "rattle", then wait for the strike. That's my personal fav. Go to google, type in buckshot rattle spoon, scroll down and watch the youtube video. The guy is catching some jumbo perch without a minnow head either. Nice.

Try glow jigs, I personally like the Frostee in either red or chartreuse. Tick jigs. Swedish pimples. Do you have electronics? They are a plus, makes it easier to jig, no bobbers and you can see the fish come up and sniff your bait.
