redhooks
I'm heading out to Helena over christmas to visit my brother and was wondering if there's any ice for fishing and any recommended waters. Also wondering if there's anyplace that rents snowmobiles and where some decent riding might be. Thanks,
SportFishin'
We have been sub zero for over a week and a half so there should be plenty of ice every where for walking or atv/snowmobile. The nearest Lake is Canyon Ferry Lake to the east haven't fished it yet but hear its has some nice Eyes & Lakers. The fishing districts west of Billings do not allow the use of live minnnows but check the regs they can vary thru-out the state. Cool thing is some places allow 6 lines per angler tru the ice with no limits on distance from your tip ups as long as you can see them with optics. Montana is opposite of MN for Eyes, Pike, & Bass you will need to purchase an additional "Warm Water Stamp" to fish for them otherwise your fishing lic. only covers trout fishing in MT.Good luck on your trip!Chris
