Learn which strain of Minnesota muskie grows the largest

Recommended Posts

Dr. Miller, U of Minnesota Research Associate who has genetically fingerprinted more Minnesota muskies than anyone, will speak at the Twin Cities Chapter of Muskies Inc on December 8. Dr. Miller will talk about the genetic heritage of our natural and introduced lakes, and changes to the muskie population of lakes by introduction of Shoepak, Leech, Iowa and Wisconsin strains of muskie. Dr. Miller has data on seven new lakes in addition to the original 13 lakes he analyzed. He has a way of describing the heritage of a muskie, using colored stripes, that even a 5th grader can understand. We will also have some Holiday food. After Dr. Miller's talk we will have a special muskie gear auction/grab bag/raffle as a fundraiser for Tom Glander. If you have an item to donate that is cool, if not, show up anyway.

I saw this presentation at the MMA meeting by Dr Miller,,,If you guys can make it "do so" this was fascinating,,dont mistake this for some boring bookworm type of clinical study this is some really cool info and will help you target lakes that have the best trophy potential "tanker variety" other then just the big lakes

Loren might be one of the smartest men I've ever met. He gets some Hugh Becker funds for his research and its very beneficial to examine muskies on a population genetics level...if anything, muskie genetics has been one of the contemporary cornerstones of management of the species because it has such an impact on fish growth and size.

Sounds like he would be a great speaker to get at one of our Muskie Inc meetings. We've been stocking Leech fish in Wissota recently and are hoping we end up with a similar success story so common in MN.

Meeting is in the basement of the Bloomington Knights of Columbus. Take Lyndale exit off 494 and go south one block to American Boulevard, then go west two blocks to Knights of Columbus. Bad weather may mean more cake for those who do show up.
