Sea Duck Hunting in Maine Pics

Recommended Posts

To be honest I never got the chance to eat an eider. The outfitter has a cousin who comes over in the evening and cleans the birds. The breast meat is then brought to a local soup kitchen where it is mixed with pork and then put into soup. I asked if I could try one like I would eat a mallard and they said I would puke. I guess they might not taste very good, they eat oysters and mussels.

As far as stories are concerned, well, I was [PoorWordUsage] I forgot my digital camera, so I had to use a disposable one, which I regret because the pics could of been so much clearer. So I get out the first morning and here comes a big ole drake right into the decoys, I aim and fire. Feathers go everywhere and the bugger hit the water. The guide tells me to hit it again, so I do, and the thing dives like no other diver I have ever seen. We must have pumped 15 shots into him before he was lifeless enough to send a dog after.

[PoorWordUsage] hard I hit the floor and wash to the back with a wall of water. Here I am lying on my back soaked to the bone with waders full of sea water and it is 25 degrees out. Needless to say it was an all out strip show when I got back to the landing.

Jeepguy, Looks like Union Bay near Ellsworth ME. Where were you guys hunting? We have a place there but I've never hunted out there yet. I keep telling my wife that I am going to schedule a trip during hunting season but have yet to do it.
