Tannor396
As I sit on the edge of a frozen lake I would like to thank the dnr for allowing so many areas for us less fortunate to hunt and the job they do managing wildlife. To all the excellent people on this forum for sharing their experiences, successful of not. They continued to give hope. To the neighbors and land owners that have had to deal with us for the season. Make sure to set your alarm clocks again. And finally to our families that have supported us in every way. THANK YOU!!!!!! So with a empty photo album and freezer, I can not wait to do it again next year.

mpester
I agree with everything you had to say. I shot four ducks and three mergansers this year in SIXTEEN days on the water. I complained all year about how bad it was but I kept going. I said I was going back to deer hunting all year. I did buy a muzzleloader last night so I think I may do some deer hunting next year but that season is mostly after duck season. Maybe I will do some this year after the gun gets here. I hunted Big Marine today and saw SIX ducks. The hunting was bad but the moon set was nice and the sunrise was beautiful. Next year will be better - it can not be worse for duck numbers (I think). CANOPY SAM
Elwood, you're funny. All in all, I had a decent season. Shot a few. Missed a few.I'd really love to see the State and Federal government offer ample incentives for landowners to re-establish wetlands all over the state. There's been lots of argument over this, but I think it's pretty obvious that our central flyway duck migration has primarily moved west. Millions of acres of dry CRP fields don't do much for ducks. Empty wild rice beds don't do much for ducks. Millions of acres of single crop acreage don't do much for ducks. We need nesting and loafing habitat (water) to bring the migration back thru Minnesota. Way to many of our wetlands are gone.I, for one, will continue to press the powers that be to help me develop wetlands on my property. Even if I don't get to harvest any birds I'll feel good about helping them, and they're always fun to watch! Thanks to everyone for the reports and conversation. It's a pleasure to visit with other like-minded folks on this HSOforum.
