Does anyone lube sabots?

I am having a hard time loading hornady xtps and crush rib sabots. I can do it with my range rod but it is next to impossibe with the hunting rod. I have a tc omega. Anyone lube their sabots?

I have lubed a few and it does seem to load a bit easier and I have seen no effect in my shooting at the rifle range.

when I first got my traditions lightning I had a hard time loAding and was told to use wonder lube to season the barrel and lube the sabots. I also shot the hornadys and I lubed them with the wonder lube and it worked fine but once I had the barrel seasoned I didnt need to lube them.

I do. My TC Omega bore is pretty tight so I switched to the thinner sabots that have been posted before. I also put just a little bit of T/C bore butter on them. They slip down quite easily. I've done this with both 300 grain XTP's and 250 grain Barnes Copper's.

So which sabots are the thinest? My omega has a tight bore. I already broke one range rod trying to get sabots down. And have a hell of a time getting a bullet down with my hunting rod.

Make sure you bullet starter is not forcing the sabot petals out into the bore.

I had the same problem with a barns bullet starter and had to cut some off of the face of the starter.

i use wonder lube patches when i clean my gun. a little tub of round yellow, lubed patches. seems to make a hell of a difference when it comes time to load the muzzy, even after firing half a dozen shots through it, but then again, i use blackhorn 209 loose powder, which burns way cleaner than any pellet i've used, and i LOVE it!!

I unloaded last night. Cleaned up everything real well and put a little bore butter on my sabot when I reloaded last night. It did seem to load a tad better than before. Maybe I will get some of those lubed patches after cleaning and in between shots.

I shoot the Omega and TC shockwaves sabots. No problem at all loading and they are very accurate for me.

Which XTPs (.430s or .452s) and CR sabots (green or black)?

.451's and the black cr's. With the lube they go down better.

Black here for me also go down smooth in my omega. Some others I tried I could barely force down the barrel. The barnes tez's (blue sabots) are supposed to load easier in tight barrels.

I use the 250 grain XTPs ).452) with the black CR sabots too. Haven't needed the lube as they load firm but I dont have to stand on the rod to load. I get good groups with that setup and Pinnacle 3F or Blackhorn.

I busted my range rod last year too.

One thing that helps with the regular rod is to use one one the folding power handles that screw in to the end of the rod. Thompson also makes a power rod with the handle but there is a screw in handle for your existing rod which work fine but I don't remember who makes it. That way you are pushing on a handle vs the quarter inch round rod. With the handle, there isn't a need for the range rod. Cabelas sells the screw in handle and it doesn't cost much.
