04 Blazer with lifter noise

Recommended Posts

Anyone have any experience with a 4.2 liter Blazer engine that has lifter noise. 68K on it and the dealer said they can't figure out what's going on - after running up a huge bill to diagnose the problem. Louder noise when first starting, then quiets down a bit. No loss of performance or other problems. I'm getting pretty frustrated with the lack of an answer and wondering if it's a dog of a motor and thinking about dumping the rig.

Thanks for any help.

Tom

If its lifter tick add 1/2 can seafoam motor tune to the oil. Run the engine until the tick stops and change the oil. Add the other half to the new oil or dump it in the tank.

I have yet for seafoam not to work on a vehicle with hydraulic lifter tick!

I haven't heard much about those with bad lifters. They don't always come back from the dead with the magic juice either. If its collapsed or something it had got to be replaced.

Personally, if it doesn't affect performance I wouldn't mess with it. I guess my car is a mitsubishi product and it ticked from day one so I kind of zone that sound out.

If it really bothers you then see if they will eat the 1800 dollars (or at least part of it) in diagnostic and replace the lifters. If they won't help you out with that at all and it bothers you a lot then trading it wouldn't be a bad route to go.
