shorefishing late fall walleyes?

So until next open water season (crossing fingers for some $ for a canoe) I'm still stuck shorefishing.

I've got a hankerin' for a nice 1 person walleye dinner sometime before hard water season, and I'd just prefer to have fun catching an eater myself than paying the grocery store. I don't harvest fish very often but every now and then I get the urge to do dinner 'all by myself'. I've even got some homegrown potatoes and herbs I plan on using as well.

I'm also not much of a walleye fisherman. I can probably count all the walleyes I have ever caught on my two hands, but I can't recall for sure since the last time I hooked one was when my age was in the single digits I believe.

Leading to my questions: Is there anywhere I can target eatable walleye this time of year from shore? If so, what'd be your go-to tactic? A rapala or similar crank?

Thanks for any suggestions, or even if you tell me that it's dumb to try to find eater walleyes from shore that's ok too!

I catch 90% of my fish from shore, but on the river. Occasionally a generous few on here take me out in their boats. I have been using Jigs with an artificial(plastic worm). It has worked well for me. Find a spot on the river where there is a current break or water dumping in. I have been catching them in the shallow areas. However I have not be out in a couple days. Maybe they moved deep?

This is the best time to shore fish eye's and yes you can have very good fishing from shore. I go shore fishing more this time of year then use my boat. You just need to put the time in to find a spot. I would start by finding a lake with eye's and if the lake has a sandy beach start there. Best is if the wind is blowing into shore and bite will be after dark shallow. I like to use a 1/8 jig and fathead under a slip float. Second is using a shallow running stick bait that rattles and be sure you to keep it in the water right up to shore. Not sure of lakes in Minneapolis but there are a few good ones in Roseville/Maplewood area look at DNR lake finder.

Shorefisher is right on. I love fishing from shore in the fall. I have a spot i like and it is very similar to what he is describing. Find a sandy beach with the wind blowing in, and let the fun begin. I usually have my best luck after the wind has been blowing in the same direction for a few days in a row. I find the best bite is right around sundown. I like a shallow running rapapla, and like he said, keep it in the water all the way, as many of my bites have been surpisingly close to shore! Have fun.
