ice hole sleeves

I have the white ones they seem to brighten up the holes. After I drill my holes I put the sleeves in then I clean the holes out. By putting them in before you clean the holes you have another layer of slush on the out side of the sleeve to help seal the holes off and keep them from freezing

for those of you that use the sleeves, do they seal enough to forgo banking around your house? I drill my holes with the house up and than drop it down, I am wondering if just dropping the sleeves down would create enough of a seal that i do not need to bank around the perimeter of the house?

Mine seal very well. I very seldom bank my house up unless I have a lot of wind blowing or will be staying on one place for several days. I will usually throw some snow on the side that the wind is blowing from. Most of the time I just set it down, drill, clean most of the slush out of the holes, drop in the sleeves, clean the last of the slush out and start fishing.
