1900_LE
Is there walkin areas (public) in so. Mn? If so, where do I find a map that shows these areas? Tried the DNR site but didn't come up with much. I'm looking for areas around Mankato. Thanks for your help.
mechanictim
Minnesota doesn't have a walk in program like South Dakota that lets hunters access private property. There is plenty of public land around the state. In Mankato there is both a Scheel's and Gander Mountain about three blocks from each other. Both stores should have map books that show public areas. The state used to and may still publish Public Recreation Information Maps (PRIM MAPS.)These show many public areas but are not updated all that often. If you are near Springfield MN. a place called The Hunters Den may have them also. Even some Walmarts carry state map books.
Mike J
Go to the Minnesota DNR HSOforum and find the Recreation Compass. Zoom in on the area you would like to hunt and it will show all of the state forests and WMA's. In the upper left corner of the map click on the i icon and then click on the WMA or state forest and it will bring up another page with specific info on the area. Some will even have a printable map that will show more detail.Mike J
