How is your area looking?

There's a lot of corn up in the Madison area and it's wet. There are a few birds to be had right now but it would sure be nice if that corn would dry out so it could be harvested.

How has the pheasant hunting been in your area?

slow! plain and simple.

I have been going out just to run dogs and keep them in shape. I have only been hunting public land and I am not seeing the normal bird numbers I usually see.

Of course its due to the crops still being in. Most of my private land I would hunt is just to wet to get out to or its still surrounded by crops. But I enjoy the challenge of hunting public land so I have been sticking to that.

My strategy has been going out and hunting the last hour of the day. I dont mind running the dogs from 10am to dusk for the exercise but the numbers of birds are few and far. But once the sun starts going down, I see tons of birds going from corn to grass.

I hate to say it but the best hunting is still atleast a month away.
