blue wonder on a parkerized 870

Recommended Posts

It's just a cold blue, probably won't match well. The cold blues are made for touch up and to protect the metal and put some coloring where the "white" would show. It will protect it from further rusting, apply sparingly with a fine (0000) steel wool for best results. There are some better ones out there, but I can't give away all the secrets.

gee, thanks Bob.....Just kidding, I was hoping you would respond since I know you have a lot of experience with gunsmithing.

I was looking online at what I could use and this gun cleaner from Blue Wonder popped up. They use it to clean barrels and remove rust, it is not the cold blue agent they sell, but the Blue Wonder Gun Cleaner. I am not sure if you read my post correctly, so if you have a little secret to let out about some splotchy surface rust on a parkerized (newer finish) on the 870, that would be great too........

I would seriously think about Duracoat, it loves to stick to parkerized surfaces and rusting will be a thing of the past. You can do any color, or camo too. I don't have any experience with the cleaner, doesn't look too expensive. You will need something to protect the metal from future rust, there isn't anything out there to touch up parkerizing, short of a full refinish. look up 'smith in Becker and give me a call if you have any questions.

Thanks Bob, I have been considering doing the duracoat thing, but with a bird and a slug barrel, it would ALMOST be cheaper to get a new 870 with the cantelever slug barrel and throw my thumbhole stock on it.....

I know Ahlmans does ceramacoat for 150 a gun, for the full gun....
