Rangefinders

Recommended Posts

how essential are rangefinders for predators? I just bought a 22-250 last spring and would like to do some long range shooting, but as the yotes come in fast and in any location I would think you wouldn't have too much time to get a range; and may have to make a good guess

If you are hunting wide open area's I would range before I started calling so I would have a good estimation as to where things are before the coyotes come. with a 22-250, if you are zero'd at 200 yards, I would say putting the cross hairs on the animal out to 300 yards will result in dead coyote. if they are further out than that, pick you chance to range them. I like to let them come in as close as they will before I shoot, unless they are trying to get down wind of me. 300 yards is a pretty long poke for anyone

I have yet to buy one since where I hunt (SE MN) I rarely see a shot over 200 yards.... I did pass up a pair two winters ago that were sitting at least 400 yds. away because my buddy decided to move to a more comfortable position as they were coming across a hay field......or was that me who moved? (Doh!!!!!!!!) Yeah it was my buddy, I am pretty sure about that
