Heidi
Ouch.... I have a "friend" who forgot to checkhis oil level before hitting the water. Noticeda slight odd noise and a little smoke from theengine. Checked oil and had 1/2 inch on bottom ofcontainer and headed for the dock. Warning buzzercame on at the dock and shut the motor down.Next time out, with a full tank of oil, it startedto a little louder and on the way back to the trailer, got real loose sounding and shut down. Got towed backand won't turn over. My "friend" is looking possible optionswhile standing on the bridge."He" hasn't had it looked at yet. Short block or repair, butnot sure what happened inside of it.thanks for responses
CRFan1
I am guessing if it locked up after the noise you were hearing, the big end rod bearing or the crank bearing(s) are gone. Sounds like it is going to need some major work unfortunately.
mojogunter
It could have been an air bubble in the oil line after it was run out causing it to run lean after it was filled back up. The crank may not be bad just A piston or two may have siezed. Many times after the engine cools down they will turn over again. If that is the case there is a chance it would just need the top end rebuilt. What year is the motor?
marine_man
I agree with the posts so far here... it very likely needs internal engine work, although tough to say how much at this point.marine_man
boatfixer
Yup, it needs to be torn down. I'll just about bet if it squeeked a piston, the bearings and crank turned blue and will need to be replaced.
