Buying used handgun from private party laws

Howdy all. Not sure were to post this questions so please feel free to move. If you wanted to buy a handgun from a friend, what are the laws pertaining to this? I know handgun laws are strict compared to rifles. Does a person need to get a permit to purchase? Thanks for any info. Junky...........

No you do not need a permit to purchase if you are buying from a private party. Its always a good idea to document the sale between the two of you.

Just write up a bill of sale at time of purchase so you and your buddy are covered
