Installing a natural gas heater in garage

Looking for advice on having a gas heater installed in my 3 stall gargage. Curious on cost to have everything done, line run, and installed? Is this something I'd call a heating and air contractor or is there a better (cheaper)route? Am I better off buying a unit at a big box store and having it installed or getting it thru the contractor? Just curious what others have done? I'm mostly a do-it-yourselver, but this is something I'd like to hire out.

I bought my hot dawg heater on line from qc supply. great heater, and they had a good price on it (about 450)You will prbably be looking at getting about a 60,000btu unit. cost to get the line run will depend on where you are bringing it into the garage from, etc. I paid $300 for the contractor to hang my heater, vent it, and run the gas line. I asked all of the heating contractor guys around here on heater prices and they were all more expensive on the prices of the heaters. I am not a plumber, and felt more comfortable having someone more skilled than myself install it all the correct way the first time.

I work for a local heating company out of Prior Lake. The Hot Dawg Heaters that Dustin85 is talking are ok but they are loud & they are made by Modine. There is a Reznor unit that we put in that is alot quieter and less problems another plus on this unit is you can run the fan only on it to circulate air. On the Hot dawgs units if the gas valves go out they are extremely expensive to fix, almost half the price of the whole heater we've also had some issues with the unit lighting if its mouted a certain way. If you have any other question's post them.

I installed a Hotdawg 60,000 btu heater in my garage including running the electric and gas line. Not one problem in 9 years.

Gotta agree with franny on the reznor, they simply are a better unit. I have seen multiple gas valves go out on the Modines, while never seen a problem woth a reznor.

My friends and I have not any had any problems with our Modine Hod Dawg heaters over the years. If we do have to buy parts eventually, that would be justified because the cost of this unit was about half of the reznor quoted price. I use my garage to work on my toys in, not as another living room, so a couple extra dB's does not bother me any.
