Need honest opinion please

Please tell me honest thoughts based on facts of what you know about these, not just the fact that you dislike the make.

Thanks crew.

It is a 2007 Jeep Liberty. I have been offered a very very attractive cash price so just looking on the facts of the vehicle. I appreciate it!

As long as it is a 4x4 it should be a good ride. My wife had one and it was a ok, except for the gas millage. The worst in it's class. Hers was a 4x2 so I got rid of it in less than a year. But that wasn't because it was bad, it was because it was bad on gas and not 4x4. She bought it without me there.

An ex-girlfriend of mine drove a brand new 07 Liberty and I loved that thing (more than her obviously laugh ). But I agree with FishonTom, the gas millage is horrible. Don't remember what she was getting exactly, but I know she was filling it up quite frequently. But the ride was good. It did good on some rough terrain (Hers was 4x4) and with all the driving she did, never had any significant repairs.

Let me lay some more perspective. This is going to be for my wife. She drives a 97 Suburban now, so to her, this mileage will likely be a dream. She was getting about 10 with over 160,000 on the sub. So, as long as she gets 17 or so, she will be in heaven. I should also state my wife is not the average. She camps, she fishes oh and by the way she is very tall for a woman...6'1. So maybe that lends a little more light. Basically looking at if it is trustworthy and reliable. Also mechanically sound. Thanks for the info so far also!

Keep it comin!

Mechanically from what I have seen they aren't to bad. I had one with a bad transfer case range sensor, one with a bad front axle seal, one with a valve train issue and one with a bad rack. Overall other than normal maintenance items I wouldn't be able to give a bad review.

A friend of our has had 2 and likes them a lot!

I am 6'4" and have driven many of them and there not to bad for the vertically accomplished!

Well, from a former parts store manager, I didn't sell a whole lot of stuff for them. There is always the occasional wheel seal and some suspension stuff (probably from off roading). Other than that it wasn't a real problem spot, just typical maintenance parts i.e. belts, brakes, lights, oil changes.

On a note about mileage, one of my part time drivers got one for his wife and I guess the mileage was terrible. He said it wouldn't do better than 14mpg. Other than that he said it drove nice. Idk for sure as it wasn't mine, but he traded it after 6 months for a CRV (I didn't catch what that did but he was happy with it).

The Liberty was a good vehicle. Not my cup of tea (size wise), but can not recall an issue.

Hard to believe an 07 is consider old grin

I would not hesitate to recommend a Jeep Liberty to anyone who is considering buying one wink

For an '07 Motortrend had these figures for mileage:

Engine 3.7L V6 210HP

EPA Econ CITY/HWY 17/22 mpg

I think its a solid little SUV that you can do some light offroading in, which you wouldn't want to do with a CRV or any of the other competitors in this class.

    • Truly sorry to hear that duffman! I know that feeling.  Keep the good memories
    • Chamois passed away this weekend a couple days short of her 13th bday. What a great dog to hang out with here at home and on distant adventures. Gonna miss ya big time my little big girl.
    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
    • We have bought a new boat, which we will be picking up this spring. It is an Alumacraft Competitor 165 sport with a 90 horse Yamaha motor. I will be buying and installing a trolling motor,  wondering if I can get some recommendations on what pound thrust I will want for this boat?  Also, I will be selling my old boat, is there a good way to determine the value on an older boat ( mid-80's with a 75 horse 2-stroke  Mariner motor)  I will appreciate any help with these questions.
