first off welcome duckhunter101. there are quite a few good places to go in your area but scouting them is a big part of becomeing a waterfowler dont expect to get exact locations but there are many lakes and WMA"S to check out in wright county I would tell you to check out pelican lake but I just can't do that to someone new to the forum grin If you find a place to hunt just make sure that you have a back up plan cause chances are there will be someone there so I would find 2-3 places to hunt other than just one main place. hope you find a place and Good Luck.

I have always heard that you should be hunting on the "X".

Find any field, pond, lake, swamp, or golf course that has an "X" and sit by that. Be sure to bring plenty of shells. Don't shoot more than your possession limit on opener though...

not necessary but it's nice to be on the X- you can always run traffic if you can't get permission for the birds primary feeding field. It's one of my favorite methods of waterfowl hunting... little more challenge.

Ducks are where ya find em. Get yourself a good set of binos, Geo Metro, CCR's greatest hits cd, a speedy rewards card, and a big gulp then have at her. Or just follow a guy with a huge sticker on his rear window, towing a really cool duck boat, and he will lead you right to em. X

Many posting on this site have been running traffic on internet hunting forums for more than 10 years. At the same time newbies come and go - some newbies are new to hunting, some are young, whole bunch of reasons.

You see comments by some regarding those that think they are professional duck hunters by the hoodies they wear and the stickers they throw up in their windows (pun intended). This is redirecting the thread to something else, because they do not believe your questions are real.

Internet scouting is real and now frowned upon. Remember that while DUCKHUNTER101 maybe sincere in the request. Hundreds of others see the answers.

So DUCKHUNTER101 with just 3 posts on this site, you are in fact asking ALOT ... tell us your waterfowl experience level, general age, who you hunt with (parent, friends, etc..) ... you will get good advise.

if you are a troll trying to stir the pot ... please leave

LOL DAN Z! I have a cool boat but just a little sticker. It was the biggest they had though.

Im all for helping fellow hunters get on the birds but I cant blab about my specific spots online. It just wouldn't be fair to hunters that have worked their [PoorWordUsage] off to find the same spot. Every year I invest many man hours and hard earned dollars trolling the state with a gps in one hand and a map in the other looking for that next honey hole. Scout scout scout. That is the best advice I can give. There are many resources such as DNR websites and County sites as well. Good luck.

    • Yeah it was a beatdown
    • Your kid needs to stay with him!👍
    • My kid was eating in Beverly Hills and ran into this guy. Talked to him a bit and wished him luck in the game tonight.
    • 🤔as a recovering machinist!🤣🤣that must make me a recovering welder!
    • As a recovering machinist, I can appreciate that.  If the spec is 0.001 - 0.0015, then clearly the correct measurement is 0.00125, duh…
    • I just figured that it is easy enough to just get a 3 bank so when the boat is not in use I can keep all 3 batteries charged. I have not bough a charger yet, maybe I will give it some more thought. Edit: After thinking this over, with the size, weight, and heat output of the charger (as well as the cost) I think it makes sense to just buy a 2 bank charger, I have a smaller charger i can use on the starting battery when the boat is sitting at home. Forgive me, for i am a retired engineer and I have to obsess over everything...
    • Congrats on the motor!  I think you’ll like it.   I can’t say much on the charger location but I’ve seen them under the lid in back compartments and under center rod lockers.  160 degrees is more than I expected to hear.   Curious why you’re opting for a 3 bank charger with a 24V trolling motor.  Unless you don’t feel you be running you big motor enough to keep that battery up as well?
    • I did buy an Minnkota Ulterra, thanks for the recommendations. I had a bunch of Cabela"s bucks saved up, which helped. Now i need to get an onboard battery charger. Where do you guys mount these things in your boat? The manufacturer I am looking at {Noco genius) says tht their 3-bank charger will run at 160 degrees, seems like a lot of heat in an enclosed compartment? Thanks for any input on this.
    • You're very lucky a troop of Sea Monkey's didn't carry you away.
    • Wasn't terrible at a state park beach. Antelope island maybe.  I wouldn't recommend it as a beach destination tho.  Figured I was there, I'm getting in it.
