GottaGo
It happens every year, I go thru 2 or 3 calls each time because one starts sticking so I move on to the next. Does anyone have any tips on how to prevent this? I tend to buy cheap calls, so I'm sure that's part of it, but is there anything to do to help besides spending a ton of money on new calls. no bait nate
I'm assuming your talking about duck calls? I used to buy cheap calls and always had problems, now i use RNT calls and have a lot better success
Seabass77
Its not the call, its you. Too much spit going into the call. Don't call with chaw, and try to avoid drinking too much coffee/pop whatever while you are hunting. Practice will also help this. That said, some calls will stick more than others tend to. Buy some buck gardner spit techs. No sticking.
Quackaddict9
One thing that has helped me from sticking more often is that I turn the insert upside down, when you're looking in the call the toneboard/reed will be on the top, instead of bottom. This is something many people have advised, try that if you haven't.Also drinking sugar pop, coffee like Seabass mentioned are common problems with call sticking. Maxxed Out
I also turn the call upside down and never have problems. I know it's hard to drop the $$ all in one purchase, but from the sounds of it you could have purchase 1 really nice call that you will have for years with all the $$ you've dropped on the cheap ones. Also you really have to watch anything you put in your mouth. That's not just coffee and pop, but candy bars and even the natural sugar from fruit will cause a call to stick. If you have a handful of nuts and you start calling even 10 minutes after you've eaten them that's going to get in the call and effect it.I bring water with me always to hydrate, but anytime I eat anything in the field, when I'm done I gargle and swish it around and spit it out to get all that stuff out of my teeth. Fish&Fowl
That said, some calls will stick more than others tend to. Buy some buck gardner spit techs. No sticking. I've blown the Spitfire of Gardner's and it stuck within the first 30 seconds I blew it.
wooduck26
Heres the best tip of all......Trust me.Right before you blow the call place the tip of your tounge on the roof of your mouth and inhale, you will feel a cooling sensation in your mouth (Ok try it now) thats the spit evaporating! Less spit = no sticking! Try to do this everytime before you blow your call, it wil lmake a world of difference!
