FearNoFish
My father and I are going up to Canada to hunt moose in october and wanted to target cisco's I have never fished for them on open water any one have any tips on what lures or jigs might be useful in catching the tasty buggers. We were told that the MNR test netted the lake in August and caught cisco up to 7 lbs and large lake whitefish. I have caught whitefish by accident before trolling for lake trout but never ciscos.hoping for a bunch to bring home and smoke them.
bobbymalone
I don't think they make papers big enough to smoke a 7lb cisco.
FearNoFish
I have done once before, you just have to glue a couple together. the tough part is getting them lit.
redhooks
We caught a couple of nice herring today jigging small silver buckshots off the bottom. We also saw them rising to the surface, so tomorrow I'm bringing the fly rod along. Good luck!
tunrevir
At that time of year you will be able to find them shallow and catch them on a variety of things from small shiny spoons and spinners to waxies under a cork. We had a similar situation where we were up for a moose hunting trip and the whitefish were running into the backs of muddy bays where creek outlets were and running upstream in the creeks. We'd see alot of them in the creeks early in the morning when portaging. Fly rod woulds be fun to try out as well.Tunrevir~
