bogwalker
nik, Good luck. I know it is tough with all the competition and distractions to keep bear on a bait. Traveling so far takes a lot of commitment too. I wish I could help.
nik
Thanks. Even though it is alot of work and takes up alot of time, it is still really fun. Regardless of the outcome of this weekend, this season was still a sucess.

knowsnothing
It is soooo cool to see all your bears and stories. I have only been hit two, possibly 3(camera error), times since it started. Went to town and 19 bears were harvested the first weekend and quiet ever since. I guess one guy wounded one but thinks he is still alive. Taking more time off in October and hoping for the best. It has been a thrill just sitting in the woods in anticipation. One regular doe, a family of 5 foxes, 4 racoons and two skunks keep me entertained. Keeping the bait fresh and gonna try my luck at some speed goats in the meantime. Hopefully October brings some more action. Sounds like a lot of guys did not go. Aitkin paper said 3800 applied for the 2500 tags. Only some 1400 bought tags. Thanks Boar for keeping me going!!!
mudslinger64
i don't know why guys do that, thats 1100 tags that are getting wasted just over there.if you are going to apply and get picked you should do everything you can to go,because others are missing out because of it. Some think this is an organized effort by anti-hunting groups/members.

nik
So after another couple of days of slow bear hunting, I decided to take Sunday off. I did some chores and watched the vikings game. After the game, I got the itch to go out. I knew I didn't have enough time to get up north to try my luck at bears, so I decided to go after some deer with the bow. I sat under an acorn factory and finally at about 7:15, 3 does walked in. I decided that I was going to take one. I got to full draw and let her rip. I ended up shooting 6 inches above her back and all 3 bolted out of there. I haven't missed in years. If this is any indication on how the season is going to go, it is going to be a long one. Oh well. It is still very early. If it wasn't for bad luck, I wouldn't have any luck at all. It was a nice change of pace to actually see some action in the field. I will give her a try again tonight!
Boar
Hey knowsnothing? after the end of the season you can rename yourself knowssomethin. I'm still pluging along for number two. The cool temps will really help an berrries an nuts should be getting gobbled up soon, not to sure about nuts down your way. If you can keep going it always seems be rewarding in that you get one or you educated. Good luck, Boar
nik
So I went up last night to put out some bait. Both of my bins have finally been hit hard again. Hopefully things are going to heat up. The acorns are still pretty bad, but the bait was gone and there was fresh scat near by. There were lots of nuts in the scat. Hopefully this weekend is the weekend that I get it done. I sure hope so since next weekend will be the begining of my duck season and I will be spending alot of time in North Dakota.
