Wanderer
Well first thing I did to drop all my liquids on my 97 Sportsman 500 was take out the plug on the lowest part of the engine. I didn't really watch to see what came out, since I was expecting engine oil. Well it didn't drain for long and the oil reservoir didn't drain any either. Now with the identical plug in the top (looking like a place to fill) I'm wondering if there's any fluid I'm supposed to be adding to the recoil case. I looked on-line last night, then I talked to a few guys at the parts counter today and even with the schematic on the computer, they couldn't explain the fill type plug either. They just figured I pulled the drain to let out any water that got in the recoil. I asked them to make sure there wasn't a fluid I was supposed to add. They couldn't say that for sure. Could someone here please tell me? Thanks.
norm
The plug on the bottom of the recoil housing is for draining out any water that might be in there. The plug on top is there so you can look in and see the timing marks on the flywheel. No fluids in the recoil housing.
