Trout Growth Rates

TUMBLEWEED

Recommended Posts

Anyone know where I can find a chart or something??

The reason is, I just saw a story on a big Rainbow

someone caught over on the Snake River in Idaho.

It was over 34" long and a girth of over 22".

Weight was 20 pounds!! We were trying to figure

how old the fish was. I guessed over twenty??

growth rates depend on a few things.

Blood Lines....

Water temps...

Fishing pressure...

What it has to eat.

The finest lines can be destroyed by fishing pressure and lack of food.

Too many trout in a certain area causes the size of trout to drop dramatically.

Page 73 has a chart on MN DNR fishing regs giving you an estimate based on length:

Ironically it only goes to 18" = 2.3lbs. I caught a 24" brown trout I estimate to be 6-7lbs, however this one was a PIG in a unique river system like no other. Most fish once they7 reach 20" get skinny.
