Power trim goes up, but not down.

My power trim motor raises the motor but won't put it down. In fact the trim motor doesn't even run when you try to put it down. Do I have a loose wire issue or is there something else that could be wrong?

Once you've located the relays, try swapping them around.. if it'll go down but not up you've found the culprit.

Not sure what you have for a motor, but for a Mercury:look on the starboard side of the motor, behind the plastic cover for two relays... they'll look like this:

Swap the two around, and see if your intermittent problem changes to be up instead of down.

I just had the same issue and did the same thing. Mine wound up just being dirty connections.

I've had this happen on the lake and luckily I was able to just switch places with the relays and got back to the cabin. Now I keep two spares in the glovebox.
