Lure appraisal

fishuhalik

Question

I'm at my buddy's house right now and he just showed me the tackle box that his grandfather left to him when he passed away. It's full of old lures, reels, knives, everthing a fisherman could have needed 40 years ago. Some of the stuff, especially the rods and reels, are in excellent shape. He was wondering if there's anywhere he can go to get it appraised. He's not looking to sell it by any means, just wondering what he has.

Thats going to be very subjective depending on the person who is appraising, but if you check HSO-Classifieds to see what similar items are selling for (notice I said selling, not what people are asking as some are way to high) that should give you an idea.

He can look for similar items on HSO-Classifieds or he could find a collector from the national antigue lure collectors club that could give him a rough idea. There are also books out there that give rough values that you can buy.

Late last winter their was a vintage sportsman show at the Medina Entertainment Center. I brought in a tackle box for appraisal and most there were eager to appraise. Might be worth a try for you too.
