I was wondering what I'm going to do now that trout season is coming to an end soon. I fish the Vermillion quite a bit and am not sure if this river is now off limits after the trout season ends. I have heard that it was designated a trout stream last spring but have yet to see any signs put up by the DNR. Since I have no intentions on keeping trout, can I fish for northern and release the "accidentally" hooked trout. What are your thoughts? I would hate to do something illegal.

If it is a designated trout stream your fishing ends on Sept. 30th. Don't get caught throwing a line in! Just because it's not posted will be no excuse. Remember the old saying. "Ignorance of the law is no excuse."
