We're cooking with gas now! Thanks Rick. Now can you do something with the ice conditions on our metro lakes?????

Forget the lights - they are a joke

I experience the same thing as GVG. I jump on the site and the first 5-10 threads open great, very fast - and then it's a hit and miss brick wall. Some threads o.k, others take several minutes to open or won't open at all.

Or how many times have you experienced difficult breathing or you can't get a match to light in a buttoned up shack. Definite warning signs to ventilate

MSchmillen, Apparently everyone else has no issues with the night time performance of their cameras Several buddies of mine can't see squat with their cameras at night either. Leads me to believe that feature is nothing more than a marketing scam
-
I got mine for $218 also - Tiger GPS.

Blackjack, I use an aqua view scout and it is worthless at night. The LED setup doesn't do a thing except show some floating particulate matter. Is there a camera out there that actually works at night and doesn't spook the fish

Do 'eyes head for the deepest part of the lake at first ice?
MetroEye replied to Sonicrunch's topic in Walleye Fishing-Perch
anchor, The amount of dissolved oxygen held in water is directly related to its temperature. Water at 33 degrees can hold more oxygen than, say, 37 degree water. Also as water cools it becomes more dense and at 39 degrees it is at its maximum density. Aquatic vegetation produces oxygen during the day through photosynthesis and consumes oxygen at night via respiration. When plants die, bacteria feed on them and consume oxygen in the process. Carbon dioxide is a by-product of this process and of the respiration process. Hope that helps -
Skunked, It might be a conspiracy Better stay alert and watch the back side

GPS antenna???

CT or anyone else in the know, What is the difference between a gel cell and a sealed lead acid battery? Are they one in the same? My hi-tech electronic battery charger has separate "battery type" settings for gel and lead acid and I am never sure which to choose. My 7 amp hour batteries usually say "sealed lead acid" on them but in the stores I see them advertised as gell cells Any help?

Ordered my H2O on the 16th and had it by the 21st. Very satisfied and excited to start using the unit

Joel,EJ, and others, Here is a qoute from an on-line article from In-Fisherman -12/05: "Lowrance Electronics has tested their TFT screens to minus 32F with no decrease in performance. And when properly engineered, TFT screens produce wide viewing angles, vibrant color, and minimum washout in direct sunlight. The changes brought about by the TFT technology, along with faster processors, increased sounding rates, and fast scroll rates for the screens, have produced technically efficient units." Granted, I am a satisfied X67C owner and I do chuckle at the occasional bashing and misinformation presented here. When I bought my unit two years ago from Thorne Bros. at the ice show, the rep (i believe he was a Lowrance rep. but not sure) told me they were using these units up in Canada while fishing hard-water lake trout and they performed flawlessly down to -30 to -40 degrees F. That was good enough for me. I have never experienced a cold weather performance failure but I usually fish out of a portable. For the individuals who fish in -20 to -40 degree weather...the electro-mechanical unit would be your best bet. BUT, how many participants on this site, if honest, actually fish in those temperature extremes?????

captkev, What is that a picture of? Some kind of LED unit?

Seems to me there are many, many electronics questions, both sonar and GPS related, posted on this site constantly. Any chance one or two of you "experts" will be presenting seminars this winter on this topic at Gander or elsewhere? I, for one, get dizzy trying to understand all of the GPS terminology - chips, software, maps, compatibility issues. I bet I am not the only newbie in this area of technology. I know I would sit in the front row
-
When someone has time, how about a picture or two of how to mount this unit in your vehicle/truck?
-
dadshamp, I have a X67C and have never experienced your problem. Every once in a great while my unit will start doing something funky and I power it off and back on and it clears up. Have you contacted Lowrance customer service? That would seem to be your best bet.

Line... What's the main draw lately to Fluorocarbon's?
MetroEye replied to The Yeti's topic in Open Water
I was using 6# vanish fluorocarbon as my leader material yesterday on the river. I am in the camp that says it is JUNK!I broke countless leaders off by hand after tying the knot. It didn't seem to matter if I wet the knot or not. I lost half a dozen rigs that broke at the knot and abrasion was an issue. Never again. -
X67 Ice Machine - over vex/Marcum
MetroEye replied to CRET's question in Equipment-Expert Information*
I just started using the graph split screen option on the X-67 this past week while fishing suspended crappies. Wow is that handy - right side shows entire water column, left side can be focused on any area in the column with 2X and 4X zoom capabilities. Between the X-67 and the Aqua-vue I think I could sit in my portable for 24 hours straight without a second thought! -
X67 Ice Machine - over vex/Marcum
MetroEye replied to CRET's question in Equipment-Expert Information*
Federline, Might I say...EXCELLENT POSTS!!!! You hit the nail on the head on all counts. Why don't guides use this unit? I would guess that they stick with what they know and what has worked in the past. The X-67 is new and gaining popularity. I was at an FM seminar recently and the pro staff were discussing vexs and marcums for ice units. I finally raised my hand and asked about the X-67. None of the staff were familiar with them. It will take time to gain some familiarity with ice fisherman. I would also like to emphasize something federline said above - if you are not into gadgetry, lots of options, adjustments, and flexibility, stick with the vex or marcum. -
Quote: Quote: I vote Lowrance X67C or Lowrance M68C, check these out seriously if you are looking into buying. I second that... I third that...sweet ice unit in graph mode!

Bob D, I think way back when synthetics first hit the market the thinking was that the rings would not seat properly during break-in. i have been running moly motor oils in my vehicles and in the golf course equipment where I work for close to 20 years. Originally I was told the same thing about running "regular" motor oil for at least 5,000 miles in a new vehicle. The theory was that the moly is so slippery that the rings and cylinder will not mate properly. Supposedly the "regular" oil generates sufficient friction to enable proper seating. That recommendation is no longer given by the manufacturer.

nj, I have experienced the exact same thing for the past month on crappies and bluegills. I started using a camera this year and is that a learning experience!!! I bet I have caught half of my fish by sight fishing with the camera. The bite is often so light that I have difficulty detecting it even with a noodle rod. It also amazes me how fast they can inhale and spit a jig. And I have seen "visually" many fish come up off the bottom to check out a presentation so it isn't only fish moving towards the center of the cone.

Local Guide, I think it's the other way around...they grab onto you

12V power center for ice fishing gear
MetroEye replied to MetroEye's question in Equipment-Expert Information*
Thanks to all who responded. I am definitely going to a one battery system. My Aqua-vue Scout only runs 4-5 hours before the battery [PoorWordUsage]s out and the battery is a special size and difficult to get at. One battery seems to make sense. If I make a unit I will take a picture of it and post.
