picksbigwagon
I have a 2005 f150 crew cab and just recently, I have noticed a "whine" coming from the motor, as I accelerate the tone of whine increases. my fear is it is the transmission or the power stearing pump. any help? it is getting louder now
Scott K
Take the serpentine belt off, and see if the noise goes away. Lots of things it can be, pulleys, alternator, ps pump. But I would first verify the noise goes away with the belt off. Put the belt back on. If it does, grab yourself a long screwdriver and hold the driver end to the alt, ps pump, idler, and the other end to your ear. Listen for the noise. picksbigwagon
Thanks Scott, I had my serpentine break last spring on me (100k miles) I will see if that is the issue this weekend

fishnowworknever
Idler pully for me a couple years ago. Is it a high pitched whine? I know the alternators like to make that really high pitched whine when the temps drop.
