2005 ford f150 "whine"

Recommended Posts

I have a 2005 f150 crew cab and just recently, I have noticed a "whine" coming from the motor, as I accelerate the tone of whine increases. my fear is it is the transmission or the power stearing pump. any help? it is getting louder now

Take the serpentine belt off, and see if the noise goes away. Lots of things it can be, pulleys, alternator, ps pump. But I would first verify the noise goes away with the belt off. Put the belt back on. If it does, grab yourself a long screwdriver and hold the driver end to the alt, ps pump, idler, and the other end to your ear. Listen for the noise.
