johnsd16
Admittedly, I am not the twins fan I was in the early 2000s. We used to go to a good number of games a year and bought playoff tickets, I knew all the players, followed the off season moves. Last year, I went to one game, and watched maybe 30 on TV. I know there was a lot of money spent in free agent pitching this year, but i saw this post on MLB.com and found it nauseating, and exactly what one would expect from the 21st century twins. Buy washed up talent with some name or decent stats attached to them, with no fire in their belly, and try to feed it to the fans. I know its very very early, but.............."I knew the team would be bad, but this is what eats me.We signed Nolasco, Hughes, pelfrey for a combined 84 million dollars. Ouch. They have ERAs of 9.00, 7.84 and 7.20.All I heard after these signings was that the Twins did the best they could with what was available. Let's take a look at the other free agent pitchers. Shall weTanaka- 3.21 ERAGarza- 2.57 ERASantana- 8 shutout innings in first startBurnett- 3.86 ERAFeldman- 0.66 ERAHaren- 0.75 ERAKazmir- 2.03 ERAColon- 2.08 ERAVargas- 1.20 ERAHudson- 1.15 ERAHammel- 2.63 ERAAll these pitchers were free agents. With the exception of Tanaka, all received smaller or the same contracts as Nolasco. We could easily have a winning record had management signed the right guys."How long do we put up with this? I have one word - Anderson. I'm sure he's a real nice guy and he is Gardy's buddy, but he is the common denominator here for pitching. I also realize he didn't pick these guys, but guys like Garza and Loshe who bomb here go elsewhere and do servicable work. I'm not expecting a staff of aces, but how about some ERAs under 5. Its getting real real real old.
motley man
They are all overpaid and we pay for their stadiums. What a crock !
Bass4life
Agreed. Target field was the sell for the owners the first few years but now people want to see a good product on the field! Good luck with that! This team is going nowhere for a long time and people are going to stop going. All time low attendence at the game today and only 3rd home game of the year! Gardy is gonna add some more gray this summer for sure!
B. Amish
the twins were after some of those guys. they chose to sign elsewhere maybe even for a little less. can't blame them. i know they offered pierzynski more money and two years but he signed with boston for 1 year and less money because they had better chance to win. It does have to be a difficult to try to negotiate with free agents who are looking to play for a winner. Twins have had three horrible seasons and make no changes from the variables that lead them to those terrible seasons and are banking their hopes on players who haven't played in the majors yet.
