fishingstar
I have a netgear 300n router that is set up in the basement of my house. It gives very good coverage of the hole house except for the addition that has been put on and it has no basement under it. I think the basement wall and the kitchen appliances is blocking the wireless connection.OK now for the question. I have a older belkin router. Can I run a Ethernet cord in to that bedroom and hook it up to the belkin for wireless coverage? Thanks for your helpDan
Whoaru99
Most likely, but maybe you could just move the N300 upstairs to cover it all? While this specifically references Linksys, the same general process should apply to yours as well. You'd probably want to go with the LAN to LAN instructions and just keep it one network.http://homekb.cisco.com/Cisco2/ukp.aspx?pid=80&vw=1&articleid=3733
upnorth
Yeah you can hook the older router up. But you will have a different SSID for the wireless. You could set it with the same name and PSK and it may roam OK.
fishingstar
Thanks for the quick response. I unhooked the PC and plugged in the belkin. My son was able to connect to it. Do you guys see any problems?Dan
upnorth
Shouldn't we do similar stuff in commercial networks all the time. Higher end equipment, same principle.
fishingstar
Moving the router upstairs is not much of a option because of the Ethernet cables hooked up to it already.
