You need a switched +12 volt wire (12ga would be good) to the BATT terminal of the HEI. If this is an older chassis that used to have a points ignition, don't use the old wire that used to go to the coil. String in a new wire from a switched battery source.

The wiring for the alternator depends on what type/model of alternator it is.
