Dog Diabetes

Recommended Posts

My vet just diagonised that my 10 1/2 year old Lab has diabetes. He is keeping her for a day or two to see how she comes around on insulin.
I'm wondering if any one out here has had a dog with diabetes, and if so can fill me in on what I can expect from her in the way in needs in the future.
My vet will fill me in on what to do with her,but if someone can tell me what they went through with there dog it would be much welcomed info to me.
Thanks in advance!

I had a dog with it I had him on insulin for 6-8 months everyday you need to give them the shot also there is special dog food they need to eat "canned dog food" and its very expensive I forgot how much money it cost for everything a month but it was alot like $300+ a month after the food, shots,dr visits, tests but to be honest with you I wish I put him down the day I found out he had diabates they go blind and their body pretty much goes to mush Its really bad watching your dog slowly die and go crazy and thats what my dog did I wont get into details but his last days were not good I know its hard but to be humaine put the dog down now when its still early Im really sorry to hear about your dog and this is bringing up some bad memories but you wanted the truth on what happens to dogs with diabates I had a cockapoo, cocker spaniel poodle mix.

Too bad to hear. I agree that the food has to change and it is not cheap. The meds will cost too but it will all depend on the way the dog reacts. The quality of life issue mentioned is a big deal. It is a very hard thing to do but it is our job to look out for our dogs. Just hang in there for a little while and see how things pan out.

If it is managable for a while great. You know your dog and will be able to tell if things are not working out.

Good luck. Hope it turns out for the best.

It is with great sadness,a few tears, and a very heavy heart that have to say that I had to put my dog down yesterday.
Her problem was cause by a pancreas infection. The infection caused a hole in the pancreas that she could not overcome.
The pancreas makes the natural insulin in the dog and that infection at first made my vet think she was diabetic do to the high blood suger. He figured it out the next day.
I took her up to the vet last tuesday and never got her back home. That bites!
She was my most loyal and best friend, and I'm going to miss her greatly.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
