high idle on 97 chevy

i have a 97 chevy half ton truck that has started to idle high when you put it in park it will idle high then eventually idle down and also seems to run high when driving you have to press the brakes down more than normal to slow down any help is appreciated

Several things come to mind including (but not limited to) a vacuum leak, Temperature sensor, Idle Air Control or a Throttle Position Sensor.

okay so is there any way i can figure out which of these things it might be?

I would start by checking for DTC's(trouble codes)

arcticcat 400 I had a 96 chevy did the same thing. In town I almost didnt need to push on gas pedal after it was up to speed it idled so high. If I remember right it was the throttle position sensor. good luck
