Morneau132
Guys I've been working on a 1978 Yamaha XS 750 Special and when I start the bike, a mixture of gas/oil immediately starts flowing out of the air filter box. It is primarily gas but there is definitely oil mixed in with it. It does not leak gas/oil when it is not running , but it is a steady flow when the engine is running. I am by no means a mechanic and have been just doing minor stuff to get this thing rideable. What is the problem?
Morneau132
Any suggestions? I'm thinking it has something to do with the floats or the needles in the carbs....
Eric Wettschreck
That's very possible. Or, the crankcase could be pressurized. If your bike has a crankcase breather you may want to check it out. Or, just remove the breather cap and run the bike. With the breather removed if the gas/oil flow stops, then you know this is the problem.
