Gas/Oil Mix pouring out of Air Filter ?

Guys I've been working on a 1978 Yamaha XS 750 Special and when I start the bike, a mixture of gas/oil immediately starts flowing out of the air filter box. It is primarily gas but there is definitely oil mixed in with it. It does not leak gas/oil when it is not running , but it is a steady flow when the engine is running. I am by no means a mechanic and have been just doing minor stuff to get this thing rideable. What is the problem?
