Quetico
Its been used very successfully in Mineapolis's East Riverside Park. There are huge numbers of people who have been making the switch. I'll be switching my own lawn over to it when I get finished with all the other landscaping work. Just be warned seed is a bit more expensive then other grass seeds. Gertens has it, Prairie Moon out Winona will ship it to your thru their mail order. Also you should be able to get it at Prairie Restorations Retail store in Scandia. Dragonfly Gardens in Amery will get it for you and they will have all of your other native plant needs.
kobear
Okay.Depends on what sun and soil condition and what u expect from a yard.Fescue Blend: Greens up early, needs some water in mid summer, can be mown a few times, handles traffic okay. Can handle moderate shade and moderate sun. Looks like standard grass but a little coarser.Sedges: Green up early, don't need much if any water, doesn't like being mown gets a rough look and doesn't really regrow well, doesn't handle traffic well. Handles Full Shade very well. 10" full grown Looks like a beefy clump of grass.Blue Grama & Buffalo Grass: Greens up Late May, almost never needs any water or fertilizers (roots 10 feet deep) can be mown but doesn't need it. Blades get to 6-8" in my area, small seed heads at 10" in late August. Handles traffic okay. Handles full sun and droughty soils very well. Looks like an okay stand of grass especially Blue grama which will form a sod. Buffalo grass spreads like strawberries and fills in openings.
