snoozebutton
I've got a Panasonic AM/FM/ CD player with built in XM that I'm thinking about switching from my old truck (2000 Ranger) to my new truck (2007 F150) but I'm a little concerned about the age of the unit. It's been in my old truck for 6 years and I'd hate to spend the money getting it hooked up only to have the CD player go bad. And would I have to buy different wiring harnesses to switch it over? All the new units I see at the big electronic stores are XM or Sirius "ready" so you'd have to buy another unit and that would mean more wires running around the truck. When you figure a GPS, cell phone charger, radar detector, and the satelite radio unit, that's a lot of wires to snag when you get in and out.So what do you guys think would be the best route to go? aczr2k
The new headunits that are xm/sirius ready, just need an reciever box stashed somewhere, they plug right into the rear of the headunit. All you need to do is route the antenna to the outside.

That is a risk you will have to think about. If you install it your self, all you will have into it would be your own labor and a possible wiring harness. I do not think you will need a new harness, depending on the feature changes and plug in(s) on the new F-150 from the Ranger. If you do need to get the harness, if you go to Wal-Fart, they are only like $10-$20 back in the auto department. As far as the life expectancy of this unit, it is just like screwing in a used light bulb. Who knows how long it will last. Could be one day or 3 years??? Only time will tell I would do just put the old unit in the new truck (IMO). It is not that hard at all. Good luck!
crothmeier
I have a Sirius Stiletto 100, portable, has the ability to record and store music from satellite, or mp3 from your computer. Has a vehicle dock, and a home dock. It can plug into a headphone type input on any radio, or broadcast over an FM frequency. Im impressed with the unit, i take it up to LOTW along with my dewalt radio at the end of march and we get all the March Madness games! You can take it anywhere. It bounces between my car and truck, and i use it as an mp3 player at the office.

Might as well give it a shot and if it does go bad, I'll still have the old one to put back in. I really miss my XM.
brainard6
Just remember the sirius or XM service follows the radio. If you switch radio you may be stuck paying another service charge that is if you have life time membership.
