more trailer wiring help

Ryan_V

Question

trying to get my new trailer wired "good enough" to get me through the weekend before I look at it harder. I got everything to work...individually. the only problem I'm having is that i don't have any brake lights when the lights are turned on. if the lights are turned off, the brake lights work fine. any ideas?? it's an aluma trailer, so no wires are exposed that I can inspect. everything is run in the frame, and therefore I won't be able to re-wire the whole thing!!! any help is appreciated. i would like to pull everything and start over, but that will be beyond my ability.

thanks!! gonna have a beer and go to bed.

More then likely its a bad ground. Test it with a set of jumper cable. Hook one end to tow vehicles frame. The other end to the trailer. If its a tilt trailer hook it to the frame on the bed.

Make sure your getting good contact with the clamps. If it works, move the jumper cable from the bed and closer to the hitch. It it doesn't work again attach a ground strap between the tongue and trailer bed.
