Help finding Brittainy breeder

Slowfinger

Recommended Posts

Just doing some preliminary research. I had to put the old girl down two weeks ago and I'm thinking that sooner is sounding better than later. Anyone have any info on semi-local Britt breeders? Thanks!

Wild willie on this forum has used a breeder down in Leroy Mn. (Iowa border) I know he is very happy with his Pup and could answer more questions and give you the specifics about this breeder. I've seen his pup in the field and I was very impressed with his abilities. Also a very healthy and beautiful looking pup. I'm sure when Wild willie reads your topic his eyes will pop out of his head and you'll get all the information you need. Good luck.... Spinach

Check out Double D's Brittanys in Monticello
(they have a HSOforum) Nice people and well bred dogs. We have one of their's and I would buy another.

Thanks, I think that this will be a good start. Let me ask you a question though if you don't mind. Have you had a GSP before? I'm just curious, because I gave some consideration to them (mostly because of less shedding) but decided that the personality of my Britt was worth putting up with all the hair.

slowfinger,
Here's a couple links to the local Brittany clubs.

Minnesota Brittany Club
http://home.earthlink.net/~minnesotabrittanyclub/index.html

St. Croix Valley Brittany Club
http://www2.pro-ns.net/~blazin//scvbc/

Are for personality, I think britts are generally a little more bubbly than shorthairs. Americanized shorthairs are generally more bubbly than German bred dogs. Having said all that, I think personality is largely a dog to dog thing and some of it depends on how you raise the dog. You couldn't go wrong with a good britt or a good shorthair.

Good luck,
gspman

If someone has the actual HSOforum address for double d's brittany's I'd suggest it would be okay to post it here, this time. In keeping FM a family site especially. I naively just typed double d's brittany's into my yahoo search engine and I found out there are a lot of options related to the search components not exactly related to hunting dogs!

That HSOforum is:

doubledsbrittanys.tripod.com, but for some reason it won't take you to the site. If you go to google and type in double d's brittanys in the search field, it will give you the correct link.

Give Ben Jacobsen at Ben's Brittanys a call at 507-324-5558. He is located in LeRoy, MN. Great guy and great breeding stock. He has a stud dog (Ike), son of Nolan's Bullet (a.k.a. Buddy - the most winningest Brittany, 30 time champion in the NSTRA, three time back-to-back-to-back dog of the year). Ben had been following Buddy's progress for years and drove all the way to Kentucky to get Ike. My pup (now nine months old) came from a litter produced by Ike and Babe (of the Maverick line). I could not be any happier. Ben and his wife work hard to get the very best Brittany product out in the field. They study each pup as they develop to ensure you get just the right pup for your family environment. You could not deal with any better people on the face of this earth! You can take a look at their site www.bensbrittanys.com and look at Buddy's record on www.beelinebrittanys.com. Their pups are very reasonably priced and guranteed. Hope this helps.
