When I lived in Colorado, I would go up in the mountains outside of Colorado Springs and dig for gems and minerals. We would hit pockets containing smoky quartz, amazonite, fluorite cubes, goethite crystals and some topaz. I miss those days. We went back last summer and got one OK pocket. Two summers ago my son and I found a nice pocket of smoky quartz and amazonite. Fun stuff.

Here are a couple of pictures.

The large plate weighs about 40+ pounds and was one of about 10 plates in that pocket.

The second picture is a smoky quartz and amazonite combo. There were about 6 beautiful combos in that pocket along with many singles and some fantastic goethite spreads.

This pocket was hit fifteen minutes after we started digging and was about 12" under the soil. A very lucky find!

The second picture is a smoky quartz and amazonite combo. There were about 6 beautiful combos in that pocket along with many singles and some fantastic goethite spreads. Same pocket as picture 2. That is goethite hanging on the side of the quartz crystal.

Found last summer. A awesome quartz and amazonite cluster.

Large fluorite cube sitting on top of a few smoky quartz crystals. Was in the same pocket as the first plate. The cube is about 2" square! Beautiful colors when placed in the sun.

Same pocket as picture 1 and 6. Has been repaired. Two LARGE quartz crystals.
