Sturgeon Spotted!!

Recommended Posts

Seen my first sturgeon a couple days ago on Big Detroit Lake!! It was between 40-42 inches. Couldnt believe it. They started stocking them in there a few years back. Wasnt ever excepting to see any but it was pretty cool.

There have been reports of people catching them in Ottertail Lake too.

Just thought I would share that info.

I hope they establish a catchable number of fish on the Pelican and Ottertail river basin!!

With the amount of fish they are releasing one would sure think so.

Someone told me that a tagged fish the DNR released in the Ottertail traveled 900 miles in 6 months and was caught in Winnepeg???? That would be crazy. I wish they would stay around here!!

According to the DNR it is normal for them to migrate that far...apparently they will travel the rivers. The DNR even modified some dams just for the sturgeon. There was an article about it in the Minnesota Conservation Volunteer last summer or winter.
