? on 777 pellets.

Recommended Posts

I just purchased a box a 777 .50 cal pellets. I currently used Pyrodex pellets now. I read different stuff about this 777 and I liked what I read. I heard that it burns a little hotter. Is that true? I read in the booklet that was in the box that it says not to use more than 100 gr ( 2 pellets ) for a charge. Right now I use 3 pellets (150 gr) and I was just wondering if I can use the same charge with 777? Plus I liked the idea with no rotten egg smell and just water to clean up with. Moose hunting for me is less than 2 weeks away ( IN Ontario ) and I am getting low on my pyrodex. Any info would be much 'preciated. I will check in later tonight. Thanks and Shoot safely! Brian

Hey Dude, I have not tried the 777 pellets yet, but I used the powder last year. I intend to get some pellets for the range soon. I see that the .50 cal also comes in 30 grain pellets so you can better tailor your load. I shot 120 grains of 777 last year, no problem for my encore.

777 is considerably hotter. It is recommended that you not try a 150 grain charge. Potential bad news!

Loose powder is definitely the way to go. Way cheaper, and you'll find most guns don't have a sweet spot of 100 or 150g. but falls somewhere in a range you can only produce with loose powder. Buy a measuring tool, a pour spout that fits the top of the hodgdon bottle, and you'll be amazed how quick and easy it is.

I have one gun shoots tack driver accurate at 100 yards using 95 grains, but opens up 3.5 inches with 100g. !!!

Hey guys thanks for the info! Right now I am getting groups of 2 inches or less at 100 yards with 150 gr pyrodex. I can just imagine what I can do if I had a scope on it but I am not going to put one on. Who knows maybe some day I will try the loose powder because I have that option if the opportunity came along for me to hunt in a state that says you can use loose powder only. Really looking forward to shooting a moose with my Knight. Got me a nice doe last year on opening day of muzzleloader season and I only shot the gun maybe half a dozen times. The shot was only about 40 yards but I was happy. I have been shooting quite a bit over the summer and it made me wish I would've bought a muzzleloader sooner. I told a co worker about how much fun it is and all so he went out and bought one for himself. Thanks again for the replies! happy Hunting! Brian
