Camp Ripley

Well now I have to sit and wait to see if I got drawn but had a few questions. This is my first time applying and I think I have a good shot of going based on the numbers I saw that applied in last weeks Outdoor News. Any information or advice I could get would be helpful but here are some I have:

How do you pick your spot?
Do you tent or stay in a hotel?

I am sure I will have more later but this is all I can think of right now.

Thanks,
Butch

Our group has gotten drawn 3yrs straight. It's a 1st come 1st serve basis. If you stay at a hotel or some sort you'll lose your position in line. You can camp or sleep in your car/truck while in line. If you plan to sleep in your car/truck come back early after the 1st day hunt and get back in line. There is no prescouting so do a research on Camp Ripley topo and pick a spot. Chances are with all the hunters out there the deers are always moving around. Last yr there was 2 huge 10pt shot in the same 40acre patch of woods we were hunting in that was next to the airport runway. Do your scouting during lunch time on the first day and be ready for the second day, try to sit all day on the second day. Find some ridges that butts marsh or lowlands. It's a chance hunt, there are some monsters in there. I've seen typical that go gross 190 easy. Good luck.
