whitefish and northerns

so me and my brother were drilling holes yesterday and ran into some of these whitefish. WE were in 60 of water but they come in at all depths and follow your hook to about 20 feet down. Are northerns ever that deep? Would that be a good spot to try for northerns or walleyes? Some of them had bite marks on them, and they were 13 to 19 inches long. Just wondering if anyone else has had any luck fishing for northerns or eyes around whitefsh?? Or maybe try shallower water not far away.

They would definitely be that deep. We get muskies (and probably some pike) grabbing our crappies on LOW in almost 50 fow, and we always manage to catch a few whitefish that are mixed in down there with them.

I doubt you'll ever find those fish too close to the bottom, and I wouldn't think you're chances of catching one would be too great. But I think the potential for a very large fish would increase. This is all going to depend on the lake as well.
