Trout/steelhead/salmon along lake Mi?

Recommended Posts

I'm meeting my Dad and bro next weekend Sept 18th for a charter out of Michigan city on lake Mi. The kings are supposed to be getting then shallow and I hope we have some luck. I'm also thinking of going down a day early and trying from shore in that neck of the woods for trout/salmon or steelhead. Anyone have any insight on rivers or tactics for a clueless salmonid junkie? Thanks in advance for any help! Good luck and tightlines!

Fishing has been pretty good.

Off the piers, I would focus on throwing spoons and slow retrieving. Guess Croc's, Kastmasters ect in the silver and green patters have been good. Others are seeing success using marshmallows on a treble set to a heavy sinker.

Where's Michigan City?

Thanks for the advice Hammer'em-
We're actually going out by the south side of Lake Mich. out of Portage Indiana not far from Chicago/Gary, I think Mi City is further east into Mi. Gonna fling some hardware out and see what happens.

i wasin algoma last weekend. boats were stacked up outside the river. green and blue seemed to be what most boats had on, word was sat. was dead, sun. was hot. i fished the kewaunee river, lots of small bows, with the exception of a pair of 30" steelies.
